The Professional Golfers' Association of America

You have to be a real swinger to get into The Professional Golfers' Association of America (PGA). The more than 27,000-member association of pro golfers is the world's largest sports organization. Its members are primarily club pros; most touring professionals are members, but they also belong to the separate PGA Tour organization. The PGA conducts some 40 tournaments and runs four major golf competitions: the Ryder Cup, the PGA Championship, the Champions Tour (formerly the Seniors' Championship), and the PGA Grand Slam of Golf. It also operates the PGA Learning Center, a golf instruction school, in Port St. Lucie, Florida. Rodman Wanamaker, a Philadelphia department store tycoon, organized the PGA in 1916.
