formerly the dunhill cup is coming to St Andrews

The alfred dunhill cup changed its name from the dunhill cup in 1992.  Alfred Dunhill, the leading English luxury goods company for men sponsors the event each year.

The event is a 16 nation tournament and commenced in 1985. It takes place annually on the Old Course at St Andrews.

 Over the 15 years USA has won the most times with three victories. Australia, England, Ireland and  South Africa each have won twice. Canada, Scotland and last years winner, Spain have each won the prestigious Alfred Dunhill event once.

Each Alfred Dunhill team consists of three players

  • The 16 nations is split into 4 groups of 4     

The first three days is played as a round robin medal matchplay format,  with the winners of each group advancing to the semi finals.

A medal matchplay format is where each Alfred Dunhill player records a medal score for 18 holes and the low score wins. A sudden death is played in the event of a tie.

In the semis, the winner of group 1 plays group 2 winner and the winner of group 3 plays the group 4 winner.
